Basic Job Functions:
Altenloh, Brinck & Co. US, Inc. manufactures and distributes engineered fasteners under the SPAX® brand for the construction market, TRUFAST® for the commercial roofing industry and exterior building envelopes and facades. The Secondary Process Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimizing continuous production processes to achieve the output, quality, and cost goals for the facility by analyzing production data and real-time floor activities to identify process bottlenecks and devise solutions to resolve. This forward-thinking role will lead in researching, planning, designing, and coordinating activities involved in application, installation, integration, and continuous improvement of heat-treating processes. They will develop maintenance needs for execution by the maintenance department.

Essential Responsibilities:
General Floor Engineering
Evaluate current heat treat/packaging processes with the objective of preventing waste and inefficiencies.
Design systems that integrate employees, machines, materials, and information to maximize productivity while achieving quality objectives.
Collaborates with managers in establishing standard operating procedures for new/existing equipment.
Assists with equipment design to improve process flow, productivity, quality, safety and/or ergonomics.
Design and manage implementation of operator suggested improvements, as well as self-observed improvements for manufacturing floor.
Evaluate current and new machine layouts to improve process flow, operator effectiveness, etc.
Implement lean manufacturing principles and educate workforce for continuous improvement.
Identify capital improvement projects with an acceptable ROI as determined by management.
Work with manufacturing to reduce work-in-process inventories, maximize machine utilization, analyze downtime, etc.
Assist manufacturing management in determining staffing requirements for direct and indirect labor.
Lead project implementations as needed for automation and engineering needs.
Production Process Improvement & Development
Improve heat treat flow: Using lean and Six Sigma concepts work with associates, engineering, and external sources to develop processes to reduce material handling, improve efficiencies, and provide labor savings methods.
Project management of automation: Provide direction, validate design, and manage schedules for vendors on automation projects as well as work with the team for integration planning and implementation.
Develop and maintain machine specification standards: Work with the team to continually develop specifications and acceptance standards for new machines, equipment, and new parts being processed.
Support organizational defined initiatives for heat treat improvements: Provide expertise and insight to the team for future automation improvements as well as act in executing defined initiatives throughout all production processes.
Associate Training: Develop training documents, work procedures and assist with associate training for work process standardization. Work with Training Coordinator for training standardization needs.
Continuing Education
Recommend and attend continuing education opportunities to remain current on new applications.
Work with area managers, engineers, and the training coordinator for continued in-house educational opportunities for any appropriate associate and application.
Requirements
Experience:
5-7+ years of Industrial Engineering experience required with preference in heat treating operations
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or similar field preferred
Required Skills/Competencies:
Solid grasp and practical implementation of Industrial Engineering concepts
Knowledge of production processes, costs, quality control, and raw materials to maximize the efficient manufacturing of goods
Understands lean manufacturing concepts
Ability to work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions
Ability to analyze performance data to drive improvement
Proficient conducting time and motion studies or using predetermined standards to establish labor rates or other factors
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Must be quality and detail-minded
Strong work ethic; a self-starter
Ability to work under pressure, while meeting deadlines and multi-tasking
Project management experience a plus
Must be able to work as a team and contribute to team goals and expectations
Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs
