STEP Cyber Security Intern

Position Description :

Serco’s Training and Experience Program (STEP) is designed to provide undergraduate university and college students paid accredited internship opportunities to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience in a professional environment.

Our 2024 internship opportunities are available throughout the U.S. and Canada, beginning on May 28th and concluding on August 9th, with 1 week off July 1st-5th. You will work with your manager to identify the best working schedule for you, working no more than an average of 36 hours a week with the added perk of half-days on Fridays.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience, you will attend training sessions taught by skilled leaders in our company to better prepare you for a full-time career.

Serco offers an exciting cyber internship opportunity within the Serco Consultancy+ business unit, which delivers a broad range of cyber capabilities to Defense and non-Defense government customers for both traditional IT and Operational Technology systems. This position will work out either our Herndon, VA headquarters or another location in Northern Virginia on a hybrid schedule. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is innovative and driven to both apply and expand their cybersecurity skills.

The Consultancy+ team provides subject matter expert advice, solutions and support to a wide range of DoD (Air & Space Force, Navy, Army, Missile Defense Agency) and non-DoD (DHS, HHS) government customers. Within DoD, we provide cybersecurity capabilities for the sustainment of existing and development/fielding of next generation capabilities.

Over the course of the summer, you will network and interface with members of the cyber team, Consultancy+, Corporate IT, and our Enterprise Technology Office to deliver cyber capabilities and services.

In this role, you will:

Serve as a IT/Cyber analyst working on project teams with other consultants representing multi-disciplinary skillsets.

Plan and execute cyber attack path assessments and mission-based cyber risks assessments.

Employ IT (including Cloud) expertise to the benefit of Serco and various clients/customers.

Contribute to the development of a variety of technical documents requiring IT best practices and Cyber content.

Develop customer briefings and support meetings.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Eligible to obtain a Security Clearance

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred fields of study: Cybersecurity/Computer Science.

Ideal candidates are rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, or Spring 2023 graduates.

This position is contingent on your ability to pass a background check and drug screen.

This role is also suited for the following skills:

Working knowledge of current cybersecurity concepts and implementations

Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework for assessing and authorizing information systems

Understanding of the Software/Systems Development lifecycle

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
