Responsibilities:

Assists coding leadership in developing and monitoring charge capture methods and controls. Monitors data sources to ensure receipt of charges.

Identifies, researches and communicates operational issues.

Performs various auditing activities related to physician coding to identify training needs and develop educational material.

Plans, assigns, and directs work for the coding team. Assists in training and provides assistance and support to new and/or lower level coders.

Determines accurate CPT, HCPCS procedure and professional supply codes and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes used for billing services provided by physicians and licensed non-physician providers.

Interacts with physicians and other patient care providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures, and regulations.

Educates physicians, department administrators, and other administrative staff regarding implementation of new codes and revision of charge documents.

Remains current with medical compliance and reimbursement policies, such as medical necessity issues and correct coding issues. Attends coding conferences, workshops, and in-house sessions to receive updated coding information and changes in coding and/or regulations.

Serves as liaison between coding staff, physicians and management.

Ensures strict confidentiality of financial and medical records.

Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail.

Other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED;

Certification of CPC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P; or equivalent designation;

three to five years experience directly related to coding for physician services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS procedure and professional supply codes and ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes used for billing services provided by physicians and licensed non-physician providers.

Knowledge and understanding of NCD/LCD requirements and guidelines.

Knowledge of current and developing issues and trends in medical coding procedures and requirements. Ability to gather and interpret data and develop, recommend, and implement solutions.

Ability to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Preferences: Experience working with Electronic Medical Records. Experience supervising or training staff.

Pay Range:

USD $25.10 - USD $37.65 /Hr.
