Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Client Rights and Privacy Officer serves as the central point of contact regarding human rights and privacy issues, complaints, and investigations. In the role of a consumer rights advocate, this position will work with persons served, their families, legal guardians, and authorized representatives at the program and departmental levels. This position is responsible for the daily monitoring of internally submitted client incident reports and ensuring that all appropriate client incidents are reported to the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Disability Services (DBHDS) via the state computerized human rights information system (CHRIS) as well as coordination of receipt of, and response to corrective action plans received from various oversight entities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Five (5) years’ experience in human services, working with diverse clients

RELATED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge and experience in state and federal information privacy laws, including but not limited to HIPAA; Knowledge of the ID/DD Waiver application process in Virginia; Ability to research changes in Human Rights and Privacy regulations and take the lead in revisions of agency policies on human rights and privacy as changes are made; Extensive familiarity with healthcare relevant legislation and standards for the protection of clients’ health information and privacy; Ability to conduct interviews during ongoing investigations with consumers, staff members, and community members; Knowledge of population management, continuous team-based care, clinical information, and point-of-care automation and use of analytics to evaluation clinical, operational, and financial performance; Familiar with care management systems; Proficient in the use of information technology and related tools, as well as producing reports as needed from such; Demonstrated skills in collaboration, teamwork, and problem-solving to achieve goals; Demonstrated skills in verbal communication and listening; Demonstrated skills in providing excellent service to customers; Excellent writing skills; A high level of integrity and trust.
