GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Position will manage Montgomery Township expenses. Analyzes invoices and expense reports, resolves accounting discrepancies, and charges expenses to accounts. Performs various administrative financial tasks of a specialized nature including but not limited to maintaining vendor records, reconciling invoices, maintaining expense accounts and cost centers, and performing a variety of professional accounting tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

To ensure success as an accounts payable associate, a person should exhibit sound knowledge of best practices in accounting and experience in a similar role. An accomplished accounts payable associate will be someone whose accounting expertise translates into optimized expense control processes.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position reports to the Finance Director/Treasurer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Verify vendor accounts, pay vendors, and resolve purchase orders, invoices, or payment discrepancies.

Receive, process, verify, and reconcile invoices.

Charge expenses to accounts and cost centers.

Control petty cash spending.

Serves as backup to Payroll Specialist as needed.

Quarterly reconciliation and filing of payroll taxes.

Monthly reconciliation of Developer Escrow accounts.

Collaborate with internal departments to gather, analyze, and interpret relevant financial data.

Compare system reports to balances and verify entries.

Issue purchase order amendments and stop payments.

Reconcile account transactions with the general ledger.

Perform recordkeeping and prepare financial reports.

Keep informed of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting.

Knowledge of:

Principles, practices, and techniques of governmental accounting.

Federal and state accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

Ability to:

Communicate accounting information effectively, clearly, and concisely.

Read and interpret complex financial information.

Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive financial, statistical and narrative reports.

Perform financial, statistical, budgetary and cost analyses.

Perform internal control checks.

Organize work for maximum efficiency.

Understand, follow and provide instructions.

Work alone and closely with others.

Organize and prioritize work load efficiently.

Sit, reach at waist level, and perform fine manipulation frequently, walk, stand, handle office implements occasionally.

Possess visual acuity (near vision continuously).

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Bachelor's or associate's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; or any combination of education and experience that meets the job the essential job functions.

At least 2 years experience as an accounts payable professional or similar.

Advanced competency in accounting and business management software, such as Quickbooks.

In-depth knowledge of accounts payable principles, accounting standards, and industry regulations.

Extensive experience in account reconciliation.

Knowledge of payroll processes, preferred.

Keen attention to detail.

Great time management and organizational skills.

Excellent collaboration and communication abilities.

Successful results upon completion of pre-employment background checks, assessments or tests, as applicable, required.

Ability to communicate and perform well in an interview and demonstrate proven skills and abilities, required.

Remain current in all position applicable trainings as required.
