BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for Southern California's Scientific community. We are currently looking for an Lab EHS Safety Officer/Scientist to work for an Orange County area medical device company.
Salary: $70-95k
Responsibilities:
Lab Safety Officer, Primary Major Responsibilities
Establishes calibration, maintenance, warranty, service contract, and access to operator manuals for all BSL2 common equipment
Upkeep of chemical inventory lists
Keep PPE and consumable laboratory supplies appropriately stocked and organized
Order specific laboratory supplies and work with other team members on placing orders on reoccurring stock items
Review companywide chemical purchases, ensures MSDS sheets are kept up to date, organized, and easily accessible
Ensure all personnel in the lab have adequate access to PPE
Schedule shared lab space or common lab equipment use time for staff.
Ensures the lab is organized
Maintains service contract records and renewals of essential lab instruments/equipment
Either directly trains or schedules training for lab personnel on the correct use of lab equipment
Responsible for coordinating chemical and biowaste disposal based on the county, state and federal regulations
Ensures that employees have all resources at their disposal to follow industry standards and safety regulations for handling and disposing of chemical and biohazardous materials.
Maintain comprehensive maintenance and upkeep of laboratory infrastructure including:
Partnering with Facilities and Quality to ensure upkeep of all Laboratory safety equipment (fire extinguishers, safety eye wash, etc.) to the appropriate calibration and maintenance schedules
Maintains and upkeeps large laboratory equipment, including chemical fume hoods and biosafety cabinets.
Quality standards and procedures for laboratory operations
Laboratory safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, safety showers, eyewash stations
Laboratory safety enclosures, including fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, PCR Workstations, etc.
Appropriate chemical storage, including secondary containment, and an up-to-date chemical inventory
PPE access for all personnel in the lab
Maintains security standards within the laboratory
Maintains contamination monitoring within the laboratory and gowning rooms
Monitors utilization of equipment and provides ongoing guidance to lab staff on the safe and appropriate use of equipment
Assist with other responsibilities and/or projects as the need arises.
Scientist, Secondary Major Responsibilities
Responsible for handling biological specimens (BSL2), following experimental procedures and protocols
Prepares reagents and solutions as directed, using appropriate procedural and documentation methods
Design thoughtful and informative experiments (with the assistance of experienced colleagues)
Execute various PCR-based experiments and analysis of raw data generated
Recording of experimental data in an electronic LabArchive lab notebook following good laboratory notebook practices to ensure proper traceability
Assist other colleagues with additional laboratory work as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field
5+ years of cumulative experience working in either a chemical or BSL2 laboratory
Very familiar with Chemical and Biohazard safety rules and regulations; preferred to have prior certification in chemical safety, bloodborne pathogen safety, Hazwoper, OSHA 30, or related
Comfortable with working in a BSL2 laboratory environment
Effective use of LabArchive, Excel, PowerPoint, Word required
Excellent communication skills to plan and obtain buy-in for lab management
Can multitask and coordinate duties of both LSO and Scientist I
Ability to quickly deploy new equipment and technology for the BSL2 lab
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and Good Laboratory Practice
