CNA- Full Time Night Shift Position

I Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or the LPN Team Leader, provides basic nursing care to patients.

II. Principal Functions and Responsibilities:

A. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement Program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

B. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

C. Attends meetings as required.

D. Employee will maintain positive and effective relations with co-workers, other departments, patients, and visitors.

E. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

III. Patient Care Responsibilities

A. Obtains and documents patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, respiration, and pulse.

B. Performs basic nursing procedures including thermal applications, non-sterile soaks, application of simple dressing, perineal care, and urine tests.

C. Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, bedpans, and transportation.

D. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.

E. Assists patients who need help with eating their meals.

F. Records intake and output of fluids on all patients designated for such observation.

G. Answers patient call lights.

H. Prints Telemetry strips q4th and notifies charge nurse when posted.

IV. Clinical Duties:

A. Assembles patient’s chart and checks to verify that all permits, authorizations, releases and other required forms are attached. Combines Emergency Room and Operating Room charts into one document for the unit to which the patient has been transferred. Maintain patient records and charts to ensure an accurate record of the patient’s medical treatment.

B. Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.

C. Answers telephone, receives and delivers messages.

D. Enter Nursing orders into HMS and have them double-checked by the charge nurse.

E. Admit and discharge patients with appropriate documents.

F. Break down charts and maintain a clean nurses’ station.

G. Assures continuity of care by attending reports from proceeding shift and communicating with the charge nurse regarding any abnormalities in the patient’s condition.

H. Perform chart audits and reminds nurses to complete required charting fields.

I. Type discharge instructions for patients and verify the accuracy with the nurse.

J. Enters patient charges as appropriate.

K. Prepares new admit packets/paperwork

V. Additional Duties:

A. Maintain adequate supply levels.

B. Utility room and instruments after procedures in the dirty utility room.

C. Set up room for new admits.

D. Restock warms FHM cart.

E. Strip rooms- Medicaid patientsRequirements:

A. Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent

B. Preferred Education: Post High School vocational training as a Nurse Technician.

C. Minimum Experience and Skills: Two years as a Nurse’s Assistant/Aide or Nurse Technician in an acute care hospital.

D. Certification, Registration, or Licensure: Current CNA license in the State of Idaho and CPR certification ability to obtain ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications within 6 months

E. Physical Requirement: Walking, lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Lifts, stooping, reaching, hand-eye coordination, and speaking.

F. Working Conditions: Bloodborne pathogens; Exposure to patient elements in general. Potential exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissues. Contact with patients and their families under sometimes stressful, difficult, and unpredictable circumstances.
