JOB SUMMARY

Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) invites applications for the position of Legal Counsel (Corporate) to support the business arm of IRC and its group of companies (IRC Group). Based in the Calgary office and reporting to the Manager of Legal Services, the Legal Counsel (Corporate) will be responsible for providing legal advice and support on a wide array of corporate and commercial matters using timely, cost effective and practical methods.

The Legal Counsel (Corporate) will draft legal documents and assist in the interpretation and administration of commercial agreements and provide general commercial legal support. The Legal Counsel (Corporate) may also assist members of the IRC Group with regulatory, energy, land use, construction and administrative law matters, and contract management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

Law Degree (JD/LLB) from a recognized law school for qualification to practice in Canada.

Admitted member in good standing of a law society in Canada, and upon acceptance of this role, is or will become a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories

2 – 5 years of corporate/commercial law experience as a practicing lawyer, preferably from a major law firm.

Experience drafting and negotiating agreements and other documents relating to M&A, joint ventures and other partnerships, leases, services agreements, and others.

Experience working with multiple stakeholders’ groups with demonstrated ability to meet targets.

Sound legal judgement and business acumen, including the ability to understand long term business goals and objectives and to work to ensure the terms and conditions of contracts and permits support the achievement of those objectives.

Ability to adhere to strategic, business, and operational plans and to develop and implement goals, objectives, and priorities to meet deadlines.

Ability to analyze and evaluate alternatives and develop recommendations related to a wide range of legal and business issues.
