CONTROLS ENGINEER
The Intermediate Controls Engineer is a fully trained engineer, well versed in control system design and implementation. They will lead the controls effort for a project from start to finish – designing and documenting controls design, programming the control system and commissioning the system at site until customer acceptance. In addition, the Intermediate Controls Engineer will lend knowledge to more junior controls engineers when possible.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and document the controls scope for assigned projects – architectural design of system, subsystem control, interface management, producing design report set for programming and implementation
Program and test documented algorithm according to coding standards including implementation of existing libraries, creation of additional libraries and custom coding on PLC and other platforms
Collaborate with Project Engineer and other disciplines within a project to ensure complete project coverage and coordinated design and implementation
Manage the controls design effort for assigned projects, managing project deliverables, design schedule, technical details and interaction with other departments
Author technical specifications – Owning the specification for controls applications and contributing to specifications for cross functional applications
Lead the controls start-up at site with guidance from Aiolos site staff – Communications checkout, equipment startup, controller tuning, debug and troubleshooting, interaction with other disciplines within the company and contractors outside the company
Create or modify standalone applications to support overall control system using high level programming language (C#)
Required:
B.A.Sc./B.Sc. (or higher) in Engineering
4-6 years Controls Engineering work experience
Self-starter – managing own work and meeting deadlines independently
On-site Controls Startup experience (I/O checkout, communications checkout, equipment startup, loop tuning, etc)
Good English writing skills
Experience in instrumentation (pressure transducers, RTDs, humidity sensors etc)
Experience with PLC programming
Professional Engineer license or eligible
Minimum Permanent Residency, Citizenship preferred
Able to travel Internationally
Preferred:
Experience with TIA Portal and/or Unity Pro/Control Expert
Experience with communications protocols – Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP, AK, etc
Experience with C# programming, especially APIs
Experience with motion control
Experience with 3rd party measurement systems (NI PXI, Scanivalve Pressure Scanners, etc)
Safety Programming experience (Siemens, Schneider, PILZ)
Knowledge of process design
Canadian Citizen
