Electrical Distribution Engineer

Atlanta

We are looking for an Engineer, Electrical Distribution out of the Atlanta, GA location, to provide engineering, design and drafting in the preparation of all projects assigned. They will also provide assistance/direction on engineering projects and establish priorities, while providing innovation tools to support the long-term vision of the department and company.

Duties

· Evaluate electrical power systems and design overhead/underground replacements per utility standards.

· Develop/modify accurate estimates and engineering drawings using Arc Map, AutoCAD or GIS software.

· Meet with manager, engineers and colleagues to review status of each project and determine an appropriate communication course of action.

· Visit site plan to determine the condition of existing utility and collecting necessary information for each project.

· Coordinate ROW acquisition, Planning, and design functions through regular project updates for schedule adherence and work forecast.

· Additional duties as needed and/or assigned.

Requirements

· Bachelor of Science Degree (BS, BA) in Electrical, Structural Mechanical or Civil Engineering required. Prior utility experience will be considered in place of a degree.

· 2-4 years’ experience with an electrical utility preferred.

· Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers, and local permitting agencies.

· Experience in writing and executing switching orders preferred. (Not required)

· Working knowledge of the local power utility design and estimating systems are highly desired and preferred.

· Working knowledge of OH and UG fiber optic and other telecommunication distribution means is preferred (not required)

Conditions

The employee will be required to regularly sit, talk or stand and be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Frequent use of computers and related equipment is required. Vision requirements include: close vision. Frequent travel to field locations via automobile will be necessary and exposure to outdoor conditions. Occasional evening and offsite meetings or involvement in storm duty, company, community or conferences is required. Travel and fielding which may result in overnight stays throughout the Southern Company service territory will be required.
