About the Job

In this role, the successful candidate will partner with the Pharmacology/Toxicology team to provide support for in vivo rodent studies.

This role requires a high level of organization and capacity to coordinate and execute multiple experiments. Under minimal supervision, he/she will provide skilled handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner as required for the conduct of studies, including activities related to dosing, sample collection, necropsy, imaging, and/or behavioral assays and /or data compiling. The candidate will ensure that activities performed are in compliance with study plans and with all standards set forth by NIH and USDA as well as the IACUC and Company standards.

The ideal candidate will have broad in vivo mouse experience, a collaborative spirit, a sense of urgency, and a desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

Perform procedures such as injections (IV, IM, IP, SC, HD, Neonatal) in mice, monitor animal health, collect blood through multiple routes, and collect tissues.

Assist in developing or writing study and IACUC protocols.

Assist in developing and performing phenotype scoring and biomarker/behavioral assays.

Assist in developing and performing specialized procedures, such as radiographic or micro-CT imaging.

Lead colony management activities, including breeding, weaning, animal identification (ear-tagging or alternative ID methods), and maintaining accurate colony populations.

Perform and interpret genotyping assays.

Coordinate resources (staff, animals, equipment, supplies) when leading a study to ensure technical and logistical success of study conduct.

Maintain a detailed, accurate, and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook, controlled substances log, and sample inventory database, as needed.

Assist in lab organization and maintenance, sample inventory management, and supply ordering.

Train junior staff as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

BS degree and 3-5 years of relevant animal handling and care experience.

Ability to work directly with mice and willingness to participate in Occupational Health Program, as required for facility entry.

Skill in handling, restraint, identification, and sexing of laboratory mice.

Experience with multiple administration (IV, IP, SC, and PO) and collection routes.

Ability to work evenings, weekends or holidays, as needed.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Expertise working with a variety of in vivo animal models; genetic disease models a plus.

A high degree of attention to detail and concern for animal well-being.

Ability to troubleshoot and think analytically.

Strong work ethic and a collaborative team player.

Good interpersonal skills and effective communication, both verbal and written.

Ability to multitask and support multiple projects simultaneously.

A strong sense of urgency and accountability.

Compensation, Benefits & Additional Information

Compensation range: $78,000 - $90,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
