Exploratory Teacher

Job Description:

The SEED Exploratory teacher is responsible for promoting academic success and equity for all students. This person will teach either Physical Education, Dance, Robotics, Arts, or Music (Classical, Instrumental, etc). They will strategically model and teach their art form. Experience in research-based instructional practices that will effectively and efficiently support learning. Deep knowledge of reading, writing, literacy, and/or mathematics at the middle school level. Well-respected teacher leader who uses data to inform instruction. Strong relationships with teachers across campus. A culturally responsive practitioner who is committed to eliminating opportunity disparities.

Job Qualifications:

The job of the AVID elective teacher requires that they have the ability and know-how to implement the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) College and Career Readiness Framework and philosophy to support student achievement for all, will use program curricular materials structures and routines with fidelity, and advocate on behalf of the students guided by the AVID mission and vision which is aligned to the ACPS Equity for ALL mission. This person reports directly to the supervising principal and will be supported by the AVID school site team coordinator and AVID District Director at the Teaching Learning and Leadership Office. They must have:

Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, secondary licensure

License/Certification: Valid MSDE License or ability to obtain one with an endorsement area in the art form for middle school or high school certified area.

Essential Functions

Demonstrates strong expertise in the areas of teaching and learning, differentiation of rigor, reading, and writing processes and strategies, language acquisition, culturally relevant teaching practices, and collaboration/cooperative learning structures through organizational structures

Knowledge of best practices in blended learning for synchronous and asynchronous environments, with Canvas learning management system experience preferred

Demonstrates reliability, independence, leadership qualities, and interpersonal relationship skills necessary to work effectively as a team with students, teachers, tutors, and administrators a

Successful teaching experience in a culturally diverse community and evidence of engaging social-emotional and academic learning (SEAL) approaches to learning.

Other duties as assigned.
