General Summary The Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking qualified candidates to be considered for the position ofAthletics Coordinator.This position performs responsible paraprofessional work in the planning, coordination supervision and evaluation of all athletic programs, activities, facility usage, rentals and leagues/tournaments.

May supervise temporary or volunteer staff.

Reports to a Parks and Recreation Operations Specialist.

The preferred hiring amount for this position is between $17.69 - $21.73 an hour.Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity.

This is a Part-Time 20-29 hour per week,non-exempt, positionwhich provides benefits including 13 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City's retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties * Assists in planning, implementing, leading, instructing, promoting, supervising and evaluating various athletic programs, activities and department-wide special events suited to the needs of participants; * Schedules and supervises use of facilities by participant groups and establishes and enforces safety and other rules and regulations; maintains order among participants; * Ensures that all policies, regulations, services, health and safety factor procedures of the organization are followed; * Communicates effectively, professionally, courteously, and thoroughly with the highest regard for the customer; * Assists in interviewing and hiring; trains, supervises and evaluates temporary program personnel and volunteers; * Instructs program personnel in appropriate supervisory methods; * Tracks performance measures for programs; maintains financial records and tracks program accounts; * Prepares reports on programs, activities and events, materials and supplies; * Develops and maintains contact with various community groups, schools and organizations; * Performs other duties as required.

Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications: * Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in sports management, recreation or related field.

* Minimum of six (6) months of professional experience in a supervisory role serving recreational, educational, sports management or similarly-related field.

Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

This position may be required to work weekends, nights and/or holidays.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.

Position may require driving a City-owned vehicle and is subject to the vehicle use policy and procedures.

Dependent upon assignment, a majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve extreme temperatures, extreme brightness and/or blood-borne pathogens.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
