What the Role Is
The Industrial Maintenance Apprentice will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and preventive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of business goals.
The Heaven Hill Industrial Maintenance Apprenticeship program focuses on maintaining high standards of work through the development of skilled employees. Standards are met through on-the-job training supplemented with related classroom and in-house training instruction. Successful completion of the program requires on-the-job and classroom training.

How Will You Spend Your Time?
Perform routine repairs and maintain all equipment to enhance efficiency and prevent malfunctions that could lead to production downtime and costly repairs
Performs a variety of duties including mechanical/electrical and PLC troubleshooting, welding, and preventative maintenance
Collaborates with leadership develop preventative maintenance plans to reduce equipment downtime
Safety Oriented; identify risks and report violations, near misses, or injuries immediately and complete safety audits and inspections weekly / monthly
Maintain boiler operation, cooling towers and water quality / chemical systems
Maintain Mechanical Grain Conveying Systems & Elevators
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic & pneumatic systems
Diagnose and troubleshoot VFD’s, setting and adjusting parameters and replacement of such devices
Troubleshoot and Program process instrumentation transmitters. Level, Flow, DP, etc
Respond quickly to maintenance requests and effectively communicate with distillery leadership
Operate motorized equipment, including but not limited to scissor lifts, JLGs, fork trucks, etc
Maintain records of all maintenance activities, completing work orders summaries
Maintain positive work environment by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with co-workers, customers, clients, and management
Maintain safe, clean, and organized work environment
Other duties as assigned
Who You Are…
High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
2+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with some PLC experience or relevant school experience
Working knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance techniques
Excellent mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of maintenance procedures and interpretation of written and oral directions, including blueprints, construction plans, drawings, assembly instructions.
Working knowledge of equipment such as conveyors, blowers, pumps, and related manufacturing machinery.
Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Ability to troubleshoot PLC control systems.
Proficient with MIG and TIG Welding
Must possess excellent communication skills, problem solving and troubleshooting skills, and a work history that demonstrates a good work ethic, excellent attendance and the ability to contribute to the production of a quality product safely
High degree of initiative, creativity, self-direction, and respect for the safety rules and procedures
Good interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team environment
Must have good oral and written communication skills to effectively direct and provide instruction to others
Must be capable of making timely decisions utilizing logic and sound judgment
Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays as required
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to possess and maintain a valid forklift license issued by the company
Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:
Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Maintenance
Working knowledge of PLC programming and troubleshooting
Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques
Previous experience in the distilled spirits industry

After the completion of the program, you will have earned your Maintenance Journeyman’s Card.
Apprentices are eligible for paid tuition and textbooks with no out-of-pocket cost for the duration of their time in the Heaven Hill Apprenticeship Program. Eligibility requires maintaining a C average GPA.

While performing duties of job, employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, and use of computer; reach with hands and arms.
Use Personal Protective Equipment
Stand constantly and/or move in and around work areas
Climb ladders/catwalks/equipment, stoop, bend, and/or crawl
Work at elevated heights more than 5 feet above floor level
Work in awkward positions and tight areas
Lift 50 lbs. frequently and 80 lbs. occasionally
Have adequate near vision to read gauges, controls, knobs, levers and CRT’s
Ability to identify color
