Position Title: Dock Inspector – Santa Maria

Summary Description
The California Giant Quality Control Inspector position requires self-reliance and the ability to work in Santa Maria with little to no supervision. This position will conduct inspections at different cooler locations when needed within Santa Maria checking fruit quality, identifying defects and determining if it meets the California Giant Standards. This position will work with the quality manager to determine the condition of the fruit so that it can be allocated to the right destination while continuing to drive a quality focused culture with external and internal teams.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
Inspect fruit to make sure it meets California Giant Specifications
Document thoroughly the inspection results within the company’s system
Communicate fruit quality to quality manager, production team and ranch/crew boss as needed or requested
Assist the quality manager in other duties assigned such as but not limited to shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting of product
Follow company’s Standard Operating Procedures for Inspections of Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, and Raspberry
Follow the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) for the handling of fresh berries
Regular attendance is required Qualifications
Previous experience in quality control preferred
The ability to work without direct supervision
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Detail-oriented
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish preferred
Ability to input inspection data into company’s software using a tablet
Adaptability – Ability to adjust to changes within the process without too much stress
Physical Requirements
This position must be able to stand for long periods of time inspecting fruit
Must be able to lift 20-25 lbs up onto pallets of fruit at shoulder level on a continual basis throughout the shift.
This position is subject to harvesting schedules and could work as much as 9-10 hour days. Some days could be longer
This position may work up to 6 days a week during the season depending on the harvesting schedule.
