Air Freight Forwarder Duties

The role of the Air Freight Forwarder is to build client, carrier and agent relationships and to obtain preferential air freight rates. Duties include:

Coordination of all Air Import/Export Freight activities, including quotations, bookings, documentation, data entry, shipment tracking and billing.

Issuance of airway bills, bills of lading, invoicing, and maintenance of documentation of shipment records.

Communication with airlines, vendors, truckers, customers, warehouse personnel, etc.

Verification of weights and dimensions of cargo and maintenance of records of discrepancies.

Advise clients of transport alternatives, terms of delivery, insurance, freight costs, import/export requirements, scheduling, and payments.

Negotiation of spot rates with service providers.

Compliance with regulatory requirements for dangerous/controlled goods transport, export control declarations, permits, licenses and filings.

Preparation and maintenance of monthly performance reports.

Verification of payable invoices prior to transmission to accounting.

Monitoring and maintenance of inbound/outbound freight activities and verification of accuracy of records.

Data entry into the company logistics software of invoices, AWBs and other documentation records.

Regular maintenance of all points of contacts with company customers, vendors and agents.

At least two years of prior experience is preferred.

Air Freight Forwarder Requirements

Education:

High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

Freight Forwarding: 3 years (Required)

ITAR Export Compliance: 2 years (Required)

import/export: 3 years (Preferred)

Language:

fluent English (Preferred)

Spanish (Preferred)

License/Certification:

IATA DGR Class 6 certifcation (Required)
