Gallagher Bassett Technical Services is seeking a qualified environmental, health, and safety (EHS) professional to become a valued member of our Industrial Hygiene/Safety & Health team. The ideal candidate for this position must be a proactively motivated individual with the ability to manage projects and deliver quality consulting services with minor supervision.

Position Summary:

Position reports to the New York City (NYC - Manhattan) Operations Branch Manager and will be based in NYC – Manhattan office.

Position requires travel within the New York City and primarily tristate area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut), and eastern Pennsylvania.

Anticipated +50% of time will be traveling and on-site Client service with balance in the NYC office performing report preparation, planning, and coordination for other projects.

Complete or oversee a variety of investigative, inspection, and consultative assignments related to asbestos, mold, lead, and indoor air quality to prevent occupational diseases and protect and improve the industrial health and work environment of the building occupants in multi-unit residential, commercial, manufacturing, and construction industry sectors.

Understand and apply industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, and environmental building investigation service techniques.

Conducting job site health & safety inspections

Conducting worker exposures to environmental contaminants on construction sites

Support air monitoring for asbestos abatement, lead and mold remediation activities

Interacting with management, contractors & sub-contractors, coordinating site meetings, developing scopes of work and implementing project schedules, as assigned

Plans, coordinates, and monitors safety & health service to multi-location clients.

Supervise and mentor entry –level staff as needed in the performance of client scope and other consulting duties.

Required:

AS or BS in physical sciences or industrial hygiene, safety, environmental sciences, or related science or engineering fields preferred, but not required

Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred in performing and coordinating asbestos, lead paint, IAQ, water intrusion/mold, general industrial hygiene, and facility-related investigations

A combination of the following certifications:

EPA AHERA/NYSDOL Asbestos Inspector

EPA AHERA/NY Lead Risk Assessor/Inspector

NYSDOL Mold Assessor

NYCSST Certification

Working knowledge of MS Office software (Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)

Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos, lead paint, etc.

Must be willing to travel to and from job sites within the NJ/NY/CT area

Must be able to pass a physical exam and be medically cleared to wear negative pressure respirator

Must be available to occasionally work night or weekend hours may and/or extended shifts beyond 8 hours

Must possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to DOT-regulated random drug & alcohol testing.

Detail oriented. Experience working with and knowledge of federal and state Environmental Safety & Health standards and regulations.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Computer skills including; Excel, PowerPoint, Word.

Ability to pass a medical clearance physical to wear a respirator.

Position requires on-site service to clients, therefore applicants must have:

Valid driver’s license

Ability to negotiate client properties, which could entail climbing, lifting, sitting, standing, and walking. Frequency of surveys by type of client will vary.

Able to handle equipment case of at least 25 pounds

Available on occasion for off-shift and weekend work or other field investigations, which will require travel by car and overnight stays.

Desired:

Additional asbestos accreditations preferred: Management Planner/Supervisor/Project Designer

NYCDEP Asbestos Investigator Certification

Experience with SARA Title III/NYC Community Right-to-Know filing requirements

OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER

Northeast state asbestos licensing (PA, NY, RI, MA, CT, etc.)

USEPA Region 2 accreditation as Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor

Experience performing other IH-related work and non-IH environmental work, such as Phase I Environmental Site Assessments

Experience in executing Community Air Monitoring Plans on construction sites

Experience preforming health and safety oversight

Experience in construction management

Bi-lingual or multi-lingual communication skills.
