Job Description
The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, the leading champion of empowerment and opportunity for African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality, and civil rights, is seeking a highly motivated community-focused individual to work as an Urban Engagement Specialist for our Serving Our Streets Program within the Public Safety Division.
The Urban Engagement Specialists are boots-on-the-ground experts who are familiar with the neighborhoods served. Their focus is to knock on every door within the target area and build relationships within every household.
The Urban Engagement Specialist will canvas high-traffic spaces and rely on neighborhood relationships to identify conflict with a trajectory towards gun violence and refer individuals in need of services to either a Conflict Mediation Specialist or Case Management Specialist, as appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage targeted residents
Build relationships for individual progress
Closely monitor and support the families who live in the target neighborhoods
Establish presence in problematic areas
Conduct home visits
Conduct household assessments
Refer conflicts to a Conflict Mediation Specialist
Refer individuals in need of services to a Case Management Specialist
Maintain log documenting all services and products provided
Participating in all required meetings and trainings
Attending community events/activities as needed
The ideal candidate must have:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential and sensitive nature
Knowledge of the Kingsway East, Jeff Vanderlou, and Hyde Park areas are preferred
Valid Missouri driver's license, insurance, and a good driving record
Dependable and reliable transportation is required
