We are Gateway Regional Medical Center. Our primary function is to offer continuous nursing, medical, and other health and social services on a 24-hour basis, under physician directed care and RN supervision.

Position Purpose

Lab assistants are responsible for all aspects of collection and processing of biological specimens for clinical laboratory testing while maintaining the Mission and Values of the Gateway Regional Medical Center.

Position Qualifications

Education:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.

Must display ability to read and understanding written data and medical terminology.

Must possess good verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with all age groups.

Must demonstrate age specific phlebotomy competencies for all age groups.

Must demonstrate the ability to perform all specimen processing functionalities.

Data entry skills are required.

Order and report distribution skills are essential.

Professional customer service skills and positive attitude required.

Must display ability to learn and retain policy, procedure, and computer training.

Assists with maintaining laboratory operations and performs other tasks as necessary to ensure continuity of patient care.

Multitasking skills required.

Experience:

Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program is preferred.

Minimum 3 months experience preferred (6 months minimum required for PRN or 3rd shift positions).

Licenses/Certificates:

Board accredited phlebotomy certification preferred. Medical assistant certification/registration acceptable.

Certificate of achievement or diploma from a recognized phlebotomy training program required. In lieu of program certificate/diploma, on the job training and years of experience may be considered acceptable upon review.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers certification required within 3 months of hire. Employee is responsible for obtaining certification at their own expense.
