Before & After School Programs Inclusion Support Staff/ Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

● To provide a successful, safe and supervised educational setting for children to receive child care and recreation.

● To maintain a safe and healthy environment.

● To promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children.

●To facilitate parent and program communications.

To serve as support staff when needed to provide closer, more individualized supervision for students with more complex needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidate will be at least 18 years of age, has specialized training or experience with providing support and implementing accomodations for students with diverse needs, will possess a strong desire to work well with children, and must submit Medical and Criminal Record Clearances.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet the needs of all children; including those who are at risk, those with special needs, those who are gifted, and those who are culturally diverse.

Help to implement all elements of the AfterSchool program.

Assist in the implementation of recreational activity plans, and promotes the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children.

Supervise group activities to reflect the unique needs of all the children.

Create and implement respectful accommodations, as needed, to successfully integrate students with special needs.

Follow a consistent schedule, and make modifications as needed to provide the least restrictive environment for students. Schedule includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities.

Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers.

Supervise and monitor children at all times. Some days may be a whole group and other days may be to provide direct 1 to 1 supervision. This may require diaper changing responsibilities.

Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur.

After specialized training, provide first aid or CPR and practice Universal precautions in order to prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed.

Helps maintain accurate reports and records related to program operation and licensing.

Participates in team meetings as needed to plan for and deliver collaborative services across all components.

Other duties as requested.
