SUMMARY

Coordinates the activities of the gas turbine engine test operations at the Wood Group Pratt & Whitney test facility in Plattsburgh, New York. Responsible for the maintenance of test equipment and facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position includes but is not limited to the following essential duties and responsibilities.

Carry out all activities of the engine and power turbine test operations including installation, operation, and removal from test cell.

Interface with management for special instructions and/or engine tests requiring customer witness.

Load and unload trucks using forklift or bridge crane.

Ensure that test equipment is properly maintained and safe to operate.

Perform routine maintenance and repair of test cell facility, grounds, and equipment.

Ensure that WGPW and customer work instructions are carried out.

Provide technical leadership for customers attending the test.

Comply with WGPW established safety practices and procedures.

Trim balance engines as required using a variety of devices and methods including No Phase Trim Balance (Somerville plotting method), PBS 4100, CSI, and other recommended methods.

Evaluate engine performance and determine corrective actions.

Troubleshoot engine and power turbine performance and operational problems.

Ensure that only Bill of Material or WGPW approved alternate parts are installed.

Ensure that engine test cell data and test cell reports are completed in a timely manner.

Review engine test records for completeness and audit for errors.

Ensure that fuel and oil usage and labor hours are properly documented.

Maintain a safe and clean work area and adhere to all housekeeping requirements. Follow all safety procedures and rules and properly wear all safety protective equipment as required.

Conduct oneself in a businesslike manner and in the spirit of teamwork.

Read and interpret complex drawings and blueprints.

Maintain logs and manifests for fuel/oil waste stream and other regulatory requirements.

Order tooling, supplies and consumables as required.

Perform special projects as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Ability to calculate figures such as ratios, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply the basic concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and shop math as they relate to fits and clearances, running positions and vector analysis.

Must be able to interpret and plot x-y graphs and determine how the data relates to engine performance.

Familiarity with computer data acquisition systems, transducers, types of data reading, transfer, and calibration a plus.

Must be able to react quickly and accurately to engine operation emergencies.

Must have good mechanical skills, a high level of manual dexterity including hand-eye coordination and the ability to accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers and dial indicators.

Must be able to read, interpret, document, and use manufacturer’s technical manuals, service bulletins, illustrated parts catalogs, assembly drawings, VOS sheets and WGP&W assembly records.

Able to use manufacturer’s special tooling and lift and turn equipment effectively and safely.

Must be able to operate a forklift.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent plus one to three years of working experience as a mechanic.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, and controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in high places and in outside weather conditions or be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, solvents and oils.
