Overview:

The Financial Analyst works across all levels of the organization within Research and Hospital. The financial analyst will be directly involved with financial tracking and analysis of financial and data metrics across the entire research enterprise. The Financial Analyst is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and summarizing the financial implications of research operations. The Financial Analyst will be directly involved in the development and monitoring of annual capital and operating budgets including grant projections. The Financial Analyst will also be involved in the maintenance of the financial decision support system (TBD). Additionally, the financial analyst will assist in areas of finding cost efficiencies/streamlining staff efforts. The financial analysist will ensure that operations within the practice are consistent with Nationwide Children’s Hospital policies and practices in support of our mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing support to develop, implement, and track financial plans/initiatives for the Abigail Wexner Research Institute (AWRI):

Assists in the development of the annual budgets for all departments, strategic initiatives, cores, overall grant expense, internal support, startups, incentive and miscellaneous funds.

Works across all levels of leadership to develop timely and accurate financial information used in analyzing current operations, problem resolution, and decision making.

Prepares monthly financial documents.

Analyzes and communicates financial variances.

Gathers, summarizes, and reports on financial variances (by grant, cost center, account, job code, and/or employee).

Develops expertise of the financial content and structure of the financial decision support system. Continually review system for refinements.

Develops knowledge of the content and structure of the transactional data (general ledger, payroll, grant system, etc.) that is used within the financial reporting, ERP, and grant software systems.

Develops and prepares annual capital and operating budgets for designated research cost centers. Assists department managers and administrators throughout the budget process by serving as their primary financial contact.

Prepares reports and analyses used during budget presentations to leadership.

Assists with budgeting for anticipated research projects, strategic plans, or long-range planning.

Develops/maintains reporting to monitor performance of designated cost centers.

Prepares various ad hoc financial and/or data analyses as needed.

Maintains confidentiality of sensitive data.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in business, health care administration or equivalent professional experience.

Master’s degree in health care administration is preferred.

Two years of financial experience preferred.

Strong customer service and analytical skills.

Must have excellent attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills: experience communicating with physicians, research faculty, and other healthcare professionals preferred.

Must be familiar with various software packages (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong ability with Excel and PowerPoint required.

Must be able to perform in a fast pace work environment and meet project and reporting deadlines.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
