About the Opportunity:
Chelsea Piers is seeking to hire a passionate and motivated STEAM Lead Teacher to join our Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn team. This is a new and exciting role for our upcoming STEAM after-school program. This program is designed to educate children aged 4-7 through interactive, hands-on activities aimed at nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. This person will be responsible for building our STEAM afterschool program and eventually managing the program and staff.
We are seeking an individual who can commit to building, implementing, and evaluating a new STEAM curriculum. This is a unique opportunity with three distinct phases.
Schedule:
June 1 - June 15: Onboarding & Preparation; Remote; approximately 15 hours/week
June 15 - September 1: Curriculum Testing; In-Person; weekday mornings; approximately 15 hours/week
September 1 onward: Program Implementation and Management; In-person; weekday afternoons; approximately 10 hours/week) plus remote work as needed (up to 5 hours per week) Potential for additional hours at Field House

Onboarding and Preparation
Review existing curriculum for ages 5-6 and prepare for summer trial period
Ensure that the curriculum aligns with educational standards and learning objectives while promoting creativity and exploration
Develop appropriate methods for assessing student progress and understanding within the STEAM disciplines
Maintain open communication channels with program stakeholders
Curriculum Testing
Implement the developed curriculum during the summer camp sessions, delivering engaging and interactive STEAM activities to children aged 4-7
Collect feedback from campers and instructors to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and identify areas for improvement
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging curiosity, exploration, and teamwork among camp participants
Program Implementation and Management
Take a leadership role in the implementation and execution of the STEAM afterschool program, overseeing curriculum instruction and delivery
Evaluate and update curriculum for relevance and effectiveness
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate STEAM instructors
Provide ongoing support and mentorship to instructors, ensuring consistency and excellence in teaching practices
Collaborate with program coordinators to organize special events, workshops, and demonstrations to enhance the learning experience and engage students further
About You:
You are a creative and innovative thinker who is proactive and passionate about early childhood education. You are organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working autonomously. You have proven experience in designing and implementing a curriculum.
You will have:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, STEAM-related field, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in Education preferred
Previous experience working with children in a classroom or after-school setting
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate a curriculum, particularly for early childhood education or STEAM programs
Strong understanding of educational principles, learning theories, and developmental milestones for young children
A passion for STEAM education and hands-on learning
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
Proficiency in educational technology tools and resources is desirable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner
Previous experience managing an educational program preferred
