JOB DESCRIPTION:

A Lighting and Texturing Artist is a vital contributor to the visual effects team, specializing in creating lifelike textures and manipulating light to bring CGI to life. This role involves generating photorealistic textures from scratch, ensuring they seamlessly integrate into the 3D environment, and adjusting lighting to enhance the overall visual appeal of CGI content.

Key Responsibilities:

Lighting: Implement and adjust lighting setups to complement textures and the overall scene, ensuring a coherent visual output.

Texture Creation: Produce photorealistic textures from scratch, adhering to technical and aesthetic standards across various projects.

Collaboration: Work closely with modelers, look development artists, and lighting teams to ensure textures and lighting schemes are technically and aesthetically harmonious.

Mentorship: Provide guidance to junior artists, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.

Technical Proficiency: Utilize software like Mari, Substance Painter, Maya, and Photoshop to create and apply textures; experience with lighting tools is also essential.

Problem-Solving: Address and solve technical issues related to texturing and lighting within the CGI pipeline.

Quality Assurance: Ensure all texturing and lighting work meets project requirements and client expectations.

Project Management: Efficiently manage time and resources to meet deadlines and project milestones.

Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, new software, and techniques in texturing and lighting.

Preferred Software Skills:

Substance Painter: Skill in creating realistic textures and materials.

Maya: Experience in texturing, lighting, and general 3D modelling.

Photoshop: For editing texture maps and photos.

Mari: For creating photorealistic textures.

Qualifications:

3+ years of experience in texturing and lighting within the CGI or VFX industry.

Strong understanding of colour spaces, lighting principles, and the texture creation process.

Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

A portfolio showcasing high-quality texturing and lighting work.

This role requires a blend of artistic talent and technical proficiency, enabling the creation of visually stunning CGI that enhances storytelling and audience engagement.
