Job Description:

The Student Counselor at Kumaraguru Institutions plays a crucial role in supporting the overall well-being and academic success of our diverse student body. This position involves providing guidance, counseling, and support to students facing personal, academic, or emotional challenges. The Student Counselor is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive campus environment where students can thrive.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Individual Counseling:

Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions with students to address their personal, academic, and emotional concerns.

Create a safe and confidential space for students to discuss their issues and feelings.

Develop personalized strategies and action plans to help students overcome challenges and achieve their academic goals.

2. Group Counseling:

Organize and facilitate group counseling sessions, workshops, and support groups on various topics, such as stress management, time management, and mental health awareness.

Foster a sense of community and peer support among students.

3. Crisis Intervention:

Respond to crisis situations promptly and effectively, including situations involving mental health emergencies or suicidal ideation.

Collaborate with university authorities and external resources when necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of students in crisis.

4. Academic Advising:

Provide guidance on study strategies, time management, and academic goal setting.

5. Referral and Resource Navigation:

Refer students to appropriate campus resources and external agencies for specialized assistance, such as medical or legal services.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available resources and services.

6. Preventative Programs:

Develop and implement preventative programs to address issues like substance abuse, sexual assault prevention, and wellness promotion.

Collaborate with other university departments to create holistic support systems.

7. Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions.

Prepare reports and statistics on counseling services to evaluate effectiveness and identify trends.

8. Collaboration:

Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support students' academic success and overall well-being.

Work closely with the university's health services, disability services, and career counseling offices.

9. Confidentiality and Ethics:

Adhere to strict ethical guidelines and maintain the confidentiality of student information.

Uphold the highest professional standards in all interactions with students.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

Preferred - certification as a counselor

Experience in counseling or related field preferred.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.

Ability to work empathetically with a diverse student population.

Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to student counseling and privacy.

Excellent problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and ethical standards.
