Senior Mechanical Engineer Reactor Components Design

Location: Toronto

Job Type: Full-Time Permanent

Salary: $128,000 - $159,000

Responsibilities:

Perform and supervise mechanical engineering work on CANDU Reactor Components

The design activities include but are not limited to the preparation of design requirements and specifications, technical calculations, and the preparation of design documents and drawings and technical reports.

Design activities might include design modifications to existing components.

Design activities will be performed following the requirements of nuclear codes, standards and quality assurance manuals and procedures.

Participate in troubleshooting issues received from operating utilities clients in reactor and reactivity control units.

Support preparation of responses to technical questions from clients.

Review calculations, design assessments and reports, and other documents and drawings for day-to-day activities and in support of design verification.

Site visits and site assignments might be required to support installation or troubleshooting related to reactor components.

Develop, plan, specify, conduct and/or lead conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases of the engineering work for reactor components during proposals, design, design verification, procurement, manufacturing, and installation.

Review calculations, design assessments and reports, and other documents and drawings in support of design verification.

At this level, supervision of lower grades engineers and engineers in training, as well as drafting staff is required.

Work is limited in scope and generally related to mechanical engineering, although knowledge of related fields of engineering and an appreciation of the impact of the work on other areas is required.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s or master's degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from a university of recognized standing.

Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience

Experience in the application of GD&T.

Experience in classical stress calculation.

Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, or similar programs to perform calculations.

Familiarity or working knowledge of nuclear ASME Code and CSA Standards.

Knowledge of design process required, as well as basic knowledge of scheduling to aid project schedules.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, including considering the plans of others, as proven records for meeting budget and schedule expectations is a requirement.
