Job Description

The Pre-press/Production Technician must have excellent organizational skills, customer service skills and the ability to work well with others. Precision, dexterity and close attention to detail are crucial for this position. This is a high volume, fast-paced environment. The Pre-press/Production Technician needs to exhibit ethical behavior at all times, be dependable and able to complete quality work in a timely manner. This position will be the primary set up/pre-press person for the Print Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in operating laminator.

Assist production staff with various production tasks as needed.

Loading of printers, load/set up plotter.

Weeding, pre-masking, prepping substrates and other various assigned duties.

Daily inspection of completed work for quality assurance.

Daily monitoring of inventory levels (vinyl, ink, substrates etc.).

Layout/schematic work may be required on occasion.

Maintain a clean and well organized work environment.

Prepare files for printing.

Provide production assistant and installers with detailed direction on current projects.

Provide high level communication and customer service to vendors.

Able to work in the production area of the department to facilitate the finishing of graphic vinyl production, mounting and trimming of digital prints.

Operates a AS400 operating system, PC operating system, proficiency in software programs: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office.

Ability to operate all Graphics Department large format printing equipment and laminators.

Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary of the position under the direction of the Print Department Manager

Team player, willingness to learn from co-workers and teach co-workers basics of setting up files for print.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Three (3) years’ experience in graphics production, including two (2) years computer design experience or equivalent combination thereof as shown in a portfolio.

Large format printing and plotting experience preferred – Roland TR2 and Graphtec plotters.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Must possess a high level of precision, dexterity and attention to detail.

Must display leadership qualities to the department.

Demonstrated ability to use various measuring tools and mathematical proficiency (fractions, decimals).

Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.

This position requires a positive attitude, fast paced personality, excellent communication skills both written and verbally.

Ability to self-manage is a must.

Ability to absorb information quickly while working in a fast-paced environment.

Must be courteous and maintain a professional appearance, reliability, willingness to learn and punctuality is a must.

Must be able to work with upper management to continue to build the department.

TYPICAL DAILY WORKLOAD:

10% - Design

40% - Setting up files for print

50% - Production work – Operating printers, cutters, laminators, pick & pack stock inventory
