This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data-collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients' conditions.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Communication & Patient Care
Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by this practice.
Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
Learn to obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
Learn to perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include:
Visual Acuity
Lensometry
Applanation Tonometry
Confrontational Visual Field Testing
Stereo Testing
Evaluation of Motility
Pupillary Function Tests
Color Plates
Accurate Refractometry
Angle Assessment
Dilation of Pupils
Schirmers
Amsler Grid
Administer topical and oral medication under direct supervision of a physician
Humphrey Visual Field Testing
Learn to perform other testing and tasks specific to the physician's clinic needs.
Learn the steps necessary to educate all cataract evaluation patients regarding what a cataract is and how they are removed using eye model or photo as an educational tool. Be able to briefly describe mono-focal vs. multi-focal lenses
Learn the duties of an ophthalmic scribe.
Coding
Learn coding and requirements for specific codes and modifiers
Learn documentation requirements for E & M coding
Learn how to be consistently accurate in coding patient's visits
Administrative
Seek advice from more senior staff as necessary; never performing beyond capabilities.
Maintain stock levels and cleanliness of exam lanes.
Perform other duties, as required.

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma
Three to six months related experience preferred
Certification within one year of hire to retain position
