Position Purpose/Summary

The primary responsibility of the mental health substance abuse counselor is to assist patients and families through the process of rehabilitation and recovery from drugs, alcohol, and other substance and behavioral addictions through rehabilitation programs and offering techniques for handling addiction.

Key Accountabilities

• Ensure the delivery of consumer-centered services to all clients.

• Deliver excellent client service to EHPS’s stakeholders.

• Ensure continuous improvement of the EHPS’s behavioral health treatment processes and operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop diagnostic procedures to determine clients' needs.

• Meeting with clients to evaluate their health and substance abuse problems.

• Identifying issues and create goals and treatment plans.

• Teaching clients coping mechanisms.

• Helping clients find jobs or reestablish their careers.

• Leading group therapy sessions.

• Providing updates and progress reports to courts.

• Referring clients to support groups.

• Setting up aftercare plans.

• Meeting with family members and provide guidance and support.

• Provide clinical consultation to referral sources, Mentors, family members, and others to help support clients in their recovery.

• Monitor and record clients' progress to ensure that goals and objectives are met.

• Arrange for physical, mental, academic, vocational, and other evaluations to obtain information for assessing clients' needs and developing rehabilitation plans.

• Confer with physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and implement client rehabilitation programs.

• Collaborate with clients' families to implement rehabilitation plans such as behavioral, residential, social, and employment goals.

• Foster a staff culture that supports the EHPS values and codes of conduct.

• Provide assistance and information to EHPS management as requested.

• Compliance and attendance of scheduled clinical supervision meetings.

• Compliance with all administrative and clinical policies and procedures including HIPPA.

• Participation in all scheduled staff meetings and quarterly briefs with the CEO.

• Other duties as assigned.

Other responsibilities

• Always ensure confidentiality, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provision of the HIPPA regulations and all related rules and regulations.

• Comply with the EHPS protocols on the appropriate use of telephone, email and internet facilities.

• Comply with the principles of risk management in relation to individual and corporate responsibilities.

• Comply with EHPS policies on diversity and equality both in the delivery of services and treatment of others.

Job Requirement

Education: Minimum of a master’s degree in human services, psychology, and mental health/rehabilitation counseling or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Special Requirement: In addition to a master’s degree candidates must have a valid license as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT), Certified Supervised Counselor (CSC-AD), or Certified Associate Counselor (CAC-AD). Must be closely supervised by an LCADC or a CAC-AD or any other Board-approved supervisor (LCPC or LGPC with Drug and Alcohol experience and board supervisory approval.)

Experience: At least one year of professional experience working in mental health rehabilitation counseling and related social services in a public or certified private welfare or health agency.

Performance Metrics for the Role - Successful completion of probation and ongoing satisfactory performance in role includes the following:

• Not having more than 2 late document submissions in any 3-month period.

• Attending all scheduled Administrative and Supervisory meetings.

• Attending all scheduled quarterly meetings with the CEO.

• Participating and completing all allocated training.

• Meeting more than 80% of the required monthly contacts as outlined in the contract by the third month of the probationary period.

• To pass probation, all of the following conditions must be met.

• If all or some of these conditions are unmet, there may be an extension of the probationary period.

Work Environment

This job operates in office and community settings including consumers' homes. This role also requires the routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. This role is located at the EHPS corporate office in Parkville and also in community settings.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Independent Contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Independent Contractor is regularly required to talk and hear. The post-holder is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. This position regularly requires long hours and some weekend work as necessary from time to time.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day.
