John Mackenzie Kindergarten is a community kindergarten offering 3 and 4 year old preschool programs. We aim to create a safe, secure and supportive environment that allows our children to explore and learn.

John Mackenzie Kindergarten (JMK) is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and enthusiastic 4 year-old teacher to join our much loved kinder community which has over 50 years of history. Supported by our experienced Director and Co-educators, this position will play a lead role in setting and implementing a rich learning environment for the 4 and 5-year old children. Through play-based learning we encourage our children to explore, investigate, imagine and invent in a child led/teacher supported program.

This is a full-time position with annual remuneration of between $65,000- 80,000 per year.

Job duties include but not limited to:

Develop, in consultation with parents and educators, an educational program that is appropriate to the individual developmental needs and interests of the children. The program will be based on an approved curriculum framework, reflect the service’s philosophy and policies, the needs of the community, and be culturally appropriate.

Display the educational program, updated every fortnight at a minimum

Develop, record and maintain specific objectives for individual children based on regular written observations across all aspects of the child’s development and share this information with parents as appropriate

Link specific objectives for individual children into the program plan

Provide a healthy, safe and welcoming environment and ensure that children are supervised at all times

Actively encourage parental involvement in developing and implementing the program at the service

Communicate with parents on their child’s development and progress at the service

The right candidate can demonstrate the following:

Has completed a Bachelor degree

Minimum of at least 2 years experience in a similar role

Current experience working in a similar lead teacher role in a kindergarten environment

Place the development of our children at the core of everything you do

Strong understanding of play based learning

Proven and effective program setting, reflection documentation and report writing

Cooperative, fair and reliable team member

Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

Ability to build strong relationship with both colleagues and families

Competent in various forms of technology (especially a Mac operating environment)

Experience using Observational Apps Maintain a high level of understanding of the Victorian Early Years Framework and National Quality Standards
