Shulman Rogers is a full-service, 100+ attorney law firm with its principal office located in Potomac, Maryland and with branch offices in Baltimore, Tysons Corner and Alexandria, Virginia.

The firm supports regional and local clients and works collaboratively, across practice groups, to respond to all of their legal needs.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proficient Word Processor to join our team.

As a Word Processor, you will be responsible for creating, formatting, and editing documents using word processing software.

Your primary duties will involve typing, formatting, and proofreading various documents, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Typing and formatting documents such as reports, letters, memos, manuals, and presentations using word processing software.

Transcribe and revise tapes and handwritten materials containing correspondence, memoranda, and project work in the daily production of legal documents.

Edit and finalize documents and copy and disseminate to clients, attorneys and staff.

Ensure documents are properly formatted according to company guidelines and templates.

Proofread correspondence, memoranda, pleadings and documents to ensure accuracy of grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors.

Coordinate with colleagues to gather necessary information and inputs for document creation.

Manage document versions and revisions as needed.

Create and update tables, charts, and graphs within documents.

Assist with the preparation and distribution of documents.

Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.

Troubleshoot and resolve formatting or technical issues with documents.

Provide support to colleagues on word processing tasks as needed.

Relieve receptionist on a rotating schedule.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Operate from established and well-known procedures under general directions determining own practices and procedures contributing to the development of new concepts.

Job encounters recurring, new, and varied work situations of a moderate degree of complexity.

Contacts are normally made with others inside including immediate supervisor and members of all departments . Contacts are usually made at supervisor's request and on own initiative and concern matters requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation or approval.

kNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Good familiarity with legal terminology and procedures pertinent to the area of assignment.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Interpersonal skills necessary in order to establish effective working relationships.

Ability to effectively handle telephone contacts.

Good organizational skills for prioritizing workload.

Ability to compose correspondence.

Ability to proof and perform editing (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) of routine office correspondence and forms.

Ability to accurately type 70 wpm.

Excellent knowledge of Word software and Windows-based systems or other comparable document production software.

Knowledge of tape transcription.

Ability to operate a variety of copy machines, facsimile equipment.

High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in word processing.

Proven experience as a Word Processor or similar role.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Familiarity with document management systems and file sharing platforms is preferred.
