BLN24 is looking for a 508 Compliance Specialist to join our team.

Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented 508 Compliance Specialist to join our team. The 508 Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our digital content and products meet the standards outlined in Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as other relevant accessibility guidelines. This role requires a deep understanding of accessibility principles, technical expertise in assessing digital content, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to implement accessibility solutions. Federal experience preferred.

Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough assessments of digital content, including websites, applications, documents, and multimedia, to identify accessibility issues and ensure compliance with Section 508 standards and other accessibility guidelines.

Collaborate with developers, designers, content creators, and other stakeholders to implement accessibility features and remediate issues identified during assessments.

Provide guidance and support to project teams throughout the development lifecycle to integrate accessibility best practices into design, development, and testing processes.

Stay up to date on relevant accessibility laws, regulations, and industry standards, and advise internal teams on compliance requirements and best practices.

Develop and maintain accessibility documentation, including policies, procedures, and training materials, to support ongoing compliance efforts.

Conduct accessibility training sessions for employees involved in digital content creation and development to raise awareness and promote a culture of accessibility.

Monitor and evaluate accessibility trends, tools, and technologies, and recommend improvements to enhance the accessibility of our products and services.

Collaborate with external accessibility experts, organizations, and stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and advocate for accessibility within the industry.Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, human-computer interaction, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications in accessibility or disability studies is a plus.

Demonstrated experience in assessing and remediating accessibility issues in digital content, including websites, applications, documents, and multimedia.

In-depth knowledge of accessibility standards and guidelines, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specifications.

Proficiency in using accessibility evaluation tools and assistive technologies, such as screen readers, magnification software, and automated testing tools.

Strong understanding of web technologies and programming languages (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their impact on accessibility.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex accessibility concepts to diverse audiences.

Detail-oriented with a passion for ensuring equal access to digital information and services for individuals with disabilities.

Experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with federal agencies or government contractors and familiarity with federal accessibility requirements and procurement processes.

Experience conducting usability testing and user research with individuals with disabilities to gather insights and feedback on accessibility.

Familiarity with accessibility-related litigation, settlements, and legal developments impacting digital accessibility.

Knowledge of international accessibility standards and guidelines, such as the European Union Web Accessibility Directive (EU-WAD) and the Accessible Canada Act (ACA).
