General Summary

The Electrical & Instrumentation Inspector will independently perform inspection activities for all electrical & instrumentation equipment during installation and create daily inspection reports stating the conditions of the work to ensure requirements of the ITP are met. The Inspector must be competent in understanding electrical codes & industry practices for low, medium and high voltage components and interpretation of drawings and specifications as well as ensure that electrical & instrumentation components and systems are installed in compliance with electrical & instrumentation codes and standards.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Verify electrical and instrumentation systems and components meet the design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

Inspect the installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment, such as wiring, cables, switches, sensors, transmitters, controllers, and meters, and guarantee quality and functionality.

Review documents, drawings, and specifications to understand the scope and requirements of the inspection.

Conduct visual inspections, measurements, tests, and audits of electrical & instrumentation equipment and materials at various stages.

Identify defects or non-conformities and provide recommendations for corrective actions, repairs, or replacements to resolve issues and ensure compliance.

Record inspection results, findings, and recommendations in detailed reports.

Coordinate with team, contractors, vendors, and clients to ensure the smooth completion of the inspection.

Perform electrical and instrumentation inspections in various work environments such as oil and gas facilities, chemical and petrochemical plants, and refineries.

Instrument calibrations including ultrasonic flow meter, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, etc.

Job Qualifications & Requirements

Associates degree in electrical, instrumentation or related engineering field required. Certification or license in electrical and instrumentation inspection from a recognized organization such as IAEI, the NICET, or the IEEE considered an asset.

Minimum of ten (10) years experience in a relevant & comparable role is required.

Valid TWIC Card required.

Valid Driver's License and pre-access drug & alcohol testing required.

Pre-employment background checks will be required.

Previous construction experience within the oil and gas industry is required.

Must possess working knowledge of IEC/ISO/NEC/ANSI/API/ISA/NFPA codes and standards relating to electrical and instrumentation work.

Previous exposure to hazardous area installations as well as high voltage electrical installations including switchgear and electric drives.

Must have working knowledge of safety & construction standards, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation relating to electrical and instrumentation work.

Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Package (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new software in a timely manner.

Must be able to perform well under pressure.

Ability to deal with complex and changing systems and technologies.

Capable of meeting tight deadlines and budgets while maintaining high quality and accuracy of the inspection.

Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.

Must have strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in using various inspection tools, instruments, and software such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, calibrators, and computer-aided design (CAD).

Excellent communication skills are essential for working with team, contractors, vendors and clients.

Ability to adapt to changing and challenging work environments considered an asset.

Travel to sites as needed.

Work Conditions

Field duties require indoor and or outdoor work in diverse industrial environments with varying weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold environmental temperatures.

Working in plant and or shop areas around production machinery with moderate to extreme noise levels.

Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety equipment as required.

Working in hazardous or remote environments.

Work from various elevations.

May be required to work in close, confined spaces for long periods of time.

Physical & Mental Requirements

Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.

Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms & legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and stooping.

Tasks may include physically moving and setting up inspection equipment.

Working extended hours and standing for extended periods of time.

Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments in conditions of extreme heat and or cold.

Must be able to work in and near industrial hazards.

Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties.

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to communicate effectively.

Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.

Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively.
