The Role

We're building our Finance team and currently seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to join us as our first Finance hire! In this crucial role, you will collaborate directly with our senior leadership, taking a lead role in owning financial accounting and operations, analysis, and reporting. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring accurate financial records and providing insights that contribute to the financial stability and growth of our company. As our first accounting hire, you will have the unique opportunity to develop and execute the accounting function’s vision, strategy, and priorities as our Company continues to scale. This role will report directly to the CEO initially and – later in the year – a Head of Finance.

Responsibilities

Develop, oversee and run financial accounting processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and records

Manage company’s relationship with external accounting and bookkeeping firm(s)

Oversee the monthly close (e.g., the revenue recognition processes and journal entries in close coordination with the Revenue Org leadership) and reconciliation process, including reporting and financial analysis to share with leadership

Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including customer billing and receivables, accounts payable, payroll, employee reimbursements, sales tax management, state/local filings, and contract review

Develop and drive compliance with our banking and treasury management strategy

Create standard operating procedures and strengthen controls around critical accounting and financial operations

Conduct in-depth financial analysis to generate actionable management reports that provide a comprehensive view of the company's financial performance, with a particular understanding of 3-statement financial analysis and budget-versus-actuals (BVA)

Assist with budgeting activities, including building financial models and forecasting

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies

Identify areas to drive operational automation, improvements and efficiency, from both a process and systems/tools standpoint

Collaborate with external accounting firms on annual R&D study, federal and state tax returns preparation as well as manage the annual financial audit process

Own various other ad-hoc financial analyses and special projects in collaboration with the CEO, Revenue Ops, Business Ops, and People Ops, as needed

Qualifications

5-7+ years of relevant experience at a top public accounting firm and/or as an in-house accountant

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent training

Proficiency in utilizing advanced financial systems and tools, as well as experience with implementing new systems

Experience directly navigating third-party financial audits and achieving successful outcomes

Experience working with technology SaaS businesses generating $10M+ in revenue

Ability to excel in dynamic and fast-paced start-up environment

Strong verbal and written communication skills

High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to be hands on and work directly on all aspects of the job

Preferred Qualifications

CPA license with extensive knowledge of US GAAP, with an in-depth knowledge of revenue recognition and software capitalization standards

Familiarity with QuickBooks

Experience with profitable, growth-stage startups (between 50 and 250 employees) and comfortable developing and scaling processes and controls in such environments

Technical accounting experience in the areas of investments, employee equity plans, and capitalization for VC-backed technology start-ups

CPG and retail tech experience

Has led a finance transformation and implementation of an ERP system

Budgeting and financial forecasting experience

Spoiler Alert believes that everyone should be compensated fairly and equitably. We set our salary ranges using compensation data from startups at our stage. The salary range for this position is $125,000-160,000. Pay will be determined based on our assessment of your level and is not determined by location.
