Automation/Mechatronics Technician

SUMMARY

The Industrial Automation/Mechatronics Technician (MT) is responsible for the design, implementation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of LC America’s manufacturing machinery and equipment, with a particular focus on highly automated machineries, as well as the building structure and services. The goal is to keep production machinery working in the most efficient and effective way: reducing downtime, malfunctioning and unforeseen costs to a minimum, while implementing the most updated technologies in order to keep a competitive advantage above our competitors.

Reports To: Operations Manager

Substitution Policy: In the event that a substitution is necessary, this position will be substituted by the manager/supervisor to whom they report.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Manufacturing equipment design and implementation.

Assembling and disassembling of machinery and equipment.

Mechanical and electrical inventory management.

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of pneumatic, aeromechanical and mechanical conveyors, hummer mills, big bag un-loaders, silos, filters, etc.

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of shaking-dryers, dryers, coolers, and their components (fans, heat exchangers, drive chains, gears, pulleys, bearings, etc.).

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of mixers, buffer tanks, conditioners, extruders, rotary valves, rotary cutters, etc.

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of boilers, compressors, chillers, vacuum pumps, die washers, pressure washers, refrigerator units, water treatment devices, etc.

Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of forklifts, case erectors, pallet wrapping machines and robots, scales/weighing stations, metal detectors, etc.

Repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, plumbing, caulking, painting, drywall, countertops, HVAC, water heaters, etc.

General electrical and mechanical maintenance in accordance with local, NC and national electrical codes and according to the FDA and BRC requirements.

Inspection, modification and maintenance of all plant electrical and electronic systems, circuits and equipment.

Capability to read, interpret and apply understanding of mechanical and electrical blueprints and drawings.

Install, troubleshoot and repair any electrical or electronic system, as required.

Select proper materials as replacement parts for all plant equipment.

Maintain accurate maintenance, production, quality and operational records as required.

Responsible for transferring key knowledge into formal documentation and for training.

Supervision of contractors to ensure they are completing the assigned tasks and projects in a professional and timely manner.

Work with 110-480V 3-phase and single.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

Must react promptly and take action quickly, based on a continuous production setting, since any breakdown will result in a loss of product, a worsening of productivity and a reduction of company performance.

Must be able to follow all plant food safety procedures.

Strong organizational skills

Ability to work independently

Must be able to lift low to medium weight (10 -30 pounds) materials on a regular basis and heavy (40 – 50 pounds) periodically

Capacity to work in sometimes uncomfortable or cramped positions

Capable of climbing a ladder

Manual dexterity

Willingness and ability to travel abroad for technical training

Available to work extended hours and overtime, as needed, on limited notice

Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree in Mechanic, Electronic, Electrical Engineering or other similar program in a subject relevant to the position (or at least 5 years of significant experience in similar position)

Current NC Electrical license and/or Certified Welder preferred

2 – 5 years of experience in the field of maintenance for production equipment required (food industry preferred)

Experience with the use of PC and industrial Allen Bradley PLCs.

Completion of apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty is a plus

Previous experience on maintenance of Extruders and Dryers preferred

Proficiency in highly automated architectures, robotics and mechatronics.

Benefits Overview

Base Salary: You will be paid bi-weekly (hourly/salary) wages subject to deductions for employment tax/withholding as required by law

Bonus Plan: Up to 10% of your annual salary will be awarded as a bonus for reaching company and personal goals

Group Health/Dental Insurance: LC America, Inc. will cover 95% of employee only coverage. Employees currently contribute $10.86/bi-weekly towards the cost of health insurance. The company covers dental insurance at 100%. LC America, Inc. will cover 25% of dependent coverage.

Health Flexible Spending Account (FSA): LC America, Inc. will contribute $500 for all participating employees. Additionally, LC America will match (dollar for dollar) up to an additional $1,000 (for a maximum contribution of $1,500).

Vision Plan: LC America’s Vision Plan provides a $150 allowance for eyewear annually ($15 co-pay). A contact lens fitting, re-fit, or evaluation once a year ($15 co-pay). All for an employee contribution of $3.50 bi-weekly.

Life and Short-term Disability Insurance: LC America, Inc. provides $15,000 life insurance and AD&D coverage for all employees. Voluntary Life, AD&D and Short-term Disability is available for an added cost.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, sick and personal days are accrued at 1.25 days per month, which is equivalent to 15 days on an annual basis.

Holiday Pay: LC America, Inc. provides employees with 10 paid holidays

401(k) Plan: LC America, Inc. participates in a Safe Harbor Plan. Contributions are matched 100% up to 3% of your compensation and 50% of contributions that exceed 3%, but not to exceed 5% of your compensation. This total matching would be equal to 4% of compensation.
