Overview: DV Energy is seeking an experienced meteorologist with expertise in weather forecasting tailored to supporting trading desks who are actively risk-taking within markets that are significantly impacted by weather variability. Contributions to trading desk activities may include alpha generation coming from proactive forecast-based recommendations, risk mitigation around sudden weather forecast changes or extreme weather events that would impact existing positions, and otherwise active monitoring of weather patterns for their potential influence on pricing outcomes across commodities markets.

Responsibilities:

Create weather forecasts across regions and timescales as applicable using state-of-the-art techniques

Process weather and climate data to generate quantitative insight into forecast outcomes/uncertainty

Communicate expected forecast outcomes + risks to a diverse set of trading teams participating in a wide array of markets

Develop weather-related quantitative analysis into production software

Requirements:

A degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science or documented relevant experience

Experience blending an understanding of physical processes in the atmosphere with statistics/machine learning/traditional Numerical Weather Prediction models to generate highly-accurate forecasts

Expertise in Python

Experience working with large data in formats specific to meteorology and geospatial disciplines, such as the following:

Familiarity with reading netCDF and GRIB files is a MUST

Processing geospatial data (shapefiles, geoTIFF files, etc) is preferred

Experience with BUFR/Zarr files is an additional benefit

Experience working with satellite data is an additional benefit

Experience building and managing a large shared codebase is preferred

Experience training/deploying AI for applications in weather prediction is a plus

Strong problem-solving and statistical skills

The proactive ability to take the lead on assignments and deliver practical research results in a timely manner

Annual compensation range $100K - $200K + discretionary bonus eligibility
