Job Description

The Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, which functions to meet the objectives of the community medical center where they work. The LMFT will provide baseline mental health evaluations on patients at the start of their medical care at the clinic. Provides brief counseling interventions, crisis management and community referrals for patients demonstrating emotional, psychological and/or psychiatric symptoms. Provides referrals for psychiatric evaluation and treatment if appropriate based on mental health needs.

REPORTS TO: Director of Behavioral Health Services and Clinic Administrator

Qualifications:

1. Active license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California per the legal requirements under the board.

2. Minimum of two years prior experience providing direct patient services in a medical environment, or prior experience in working with patients in a clinical or social services environment; including working with adults or adolescents in individual, group, and family therapy.

3. Able to work a flexible schedule of 20 to 30 hours per week or full time as designated by position.

4. A working knowledge of theories and interventions that are utilized to successfully work with patients in order to provide empathy, support, and encourage patients to initiate change.

5. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate in large or small groups and public speaking skills.

6. Thorough working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and contemporary general office practices and procedures

7. Excellent leadership skills and working from a team-based perspective.

8. Typing/data entry skills sufficient to meet production requirements.

9. Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and others.

10. Effective work organization skills.

11. Ability to be flexible and work in a changing environment.

12. Sensitivity to the different cultures represented among members and staff.

13. Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate with others in a professional and caring manner including sensitivity with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles.

14. Demonstrated ability to set priorities for tasks to work effectively in spite of interruptions and under minimal supervision. Self-starter, reliable and dependable.

15. Demonstrated proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).

16. Fluency in English (speak, read and write).

17. Fluency in Spanish (speak, translate, read and write) is preferred.

18. Ability to solve problems and make routine recommendations.

19. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about patient(s) Protected Health Information.

20. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
