Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Report to: Nurse Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Maintains responsibility for the care of the postoperative patient during the recovery process up until discharge.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Readies the area at beginning of day and restocks as necessary.*

2. Introduces self to patient and family

3. Verifies procedure done, provides care appropriate to surgical procedure

4. Explains post-op process and provides physical, emotional and educational support to patient.*

5. Provides attire necessary for procedures.*

6. Able to assess patient and maintain IV access.

7. Checks chart for medical record completeness.*

8. Communicates with staff on patient’s history and surgical course.

9. Administers medications and treatments in a competent, timely manner.*

10. Recognizes actual or potential problems and communicates them appropriately.*

11. Utilizes equipment safely and appropriately.*

12. Maintains patient safety and comfort.*

13. Assists in procedure rooms and pre-operative area as required.*

14. Responsible to maintain case preference cards with necessary documentation.*

15. Exercises ability to perform CLIA waived testing.*

16. Provides care appropriate to age of patients.*

17. Maintains proper quality control of lab equipment.*

18. Makes post operative telephone calls as required.*

19. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.*

20. Maintains appropriate logs as required.*

21. Participates in quality management initiatives.*

22. Participates in the economical use of supplies.*

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and one to two years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software and inventory software.

Certificates and Licenses:

New York State RN License

ACLS recommended

PALS recommended
