Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc. is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest Regions. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized and flexible self-starter to fill a full-time opening for an Engineer, in the Boise, ID, North Salt Lake, UT or Tucson, AZ area (flexible), reporting to the VP of Operations.

The Engineer will lead, direct, and execute projects, improvements, & process issues for Idaho Asphalt & subsidiaries. The role will:

Provide leadership, oversight, and execute improvement & expansion projects.

Direct and execute process control and automation improvements.

Providing ingenuity in using broad concepts of chemical engineering and applying them to address specific operational improvements.

A leading from the front attitude, willing to do any job that needs to be done.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify, develop, prioritize, and implement process improvements across all our facilities.

Design new process and facilities as needed (green- & brownfield).

Develop and implement process automation and controls to improve product quality and throughput.

Support production operations with technical leadership and root cause troubleshooting.

Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, controls narratives, and plan views.

Perform necessary calculations for development of mass and energy balances and heat transfer models.

Identify, evaluate, and implement process instrumentation.

Develop and maintain SOPs and batch sheets as needed.

Business travel to all sites is required. Travel may be 30-50%. Scheduling of travel is flexible and on an as needed basis.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering required.

Minimum of 2 years of progressive responsibility in engineering or manufacturing. Strong preference to engineering experience within a chemical manufacturing/processing environment or equivalent.

Asphalt OR Chemical plant experience is a plus.

Familiarity with industry standards such as OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, & APA is desirable.

Technical Skills:

Process engineering

Project engineering

Basic unit operation chemical engineering calculations

Root cause analysis

Project management and execution skills

Strong computer skills

Intermediate skill level (or better) in data analysis

Strong computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications and Other Skills:

PE license

Process controls experience

Mechanical and electrical aptitude

Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing certification

Formal leadership and management training

Intermediate skill (or better) with AutoCad, Excel

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
