Location: On-Site at Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX

Hours: M-F, 8-hour shift between the hours of 6:00AM-4:30PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree: Master’s degree in nursing.

Education: Graduate from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Experience: Required to demonstrate clinical competency within the past two years.

Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license as a nurse practitioner.

Certification:

Acute Care & Adult Nurse Practitioners - Certified in the specialty required by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Family Practice Nurse Practitioners - Certified in the specialty required by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).

Women's Health Nurse Practitioners - Certified in the specialty required by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for the obstetric, gynecologic, and primary care to women).

All Nurse Practitioners: Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Assesses women and develops a plan of care based on the physical and psycho-social status and needs of the patient/family, using knowledge of the full range of community health nursing principles, practices, and procedures; knowledge of and ability to treat chronic gynecology health problems; ability to counsel and teach; ability to assess and treat minor illnesses; ability to provide preventive care; ability to take medical histories; knowledge of professional nursing principles; and knowledge of and ability to provide uncomplicated obstetric care.

Diagnoses minor/acute and chronic OB-GYN conditions and diagnoses and/or screens other conditions as indicated based on scope of practice. Employee uses knowledge of the full range of community health nursing principles, practices, and procedures; knowledge of and ability to treat chronic gynecology health problems; ability to counsel and teach; ability to assess and treat minor illnesses; ability to provide preventive care; ability to take medical histories; knowledge of professional nursing principles.

Collaborates with physicians regarding patient management, to include evaluating and revising therapeutic plans. Refers to high-risk, unstable, or extremely complex patients to the physicians. Develops a therapeutic environment, which allows patients and families to have confidence in the practitioner. Plans with other health care professionals and agencies involved with providing services to patients and their families and coordinates the care provided. Initiates and receives referrals. Documents in the patient record observations, plans, treatments, teaching, and significant findings. Identifies those components of the care plan, which may be appropriately delegated to other nursing personnel. Ensures proper documentation of lab and radiology results are forwarded to patients in a timely manner as determined by hospital policy.

Participates in on-going peer review with other nurse practitioners to maintain competency in clinical practice and trends. Participates in continuous quality improvement and risk management processes related to practice.

Provides telephone and secure messaging advice and consultation to clients and family with questions regarding associated disease states and women's health maintenance. Notifies client of abnormal findings and explains treatment, if needed.

Refers client to outside agencies and in-house services such as radiology, nutrition, social services, Behavioral Health, primary and urgent care, Tricare Healthcare Finders, and tertiary care facilities for further studies when appropriate. Facilitates appropriate communication among referral specialists, the family, and the community-based programs.

Perform and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures, including, but not limited to, cervical cytological screening, microscopy, endometrial biopsies, colposcopy, and intrauterine device (IUD) insertion.

Prescribe therapies, including medications, considering pregnancy and location status, sociocultural background, and financial resources.

Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.

Effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.

Complete orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.

Participate in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.

Serve and participate in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed. Provide relevant and timely information to these groups and assist with decision-making and process improvement. Participate in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities designed to enhance health services.

Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).

Serves and participates in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed. Provides relevant and timely information to these groups and assists with decision-making and process improvement. Participates in customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities, designed to enhance health services.

Completes orientation and competency verification programs in accordance with (IAW) unit guidelines.

Participates in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.

Encourages team building and enhances work knowledge by cross-training/augmenting other units as appropriate.

Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits, and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.

Obtains/maintains/documents professional Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) to comply with licensure and AF requirements, MTF initial and annual training requirements, and required unit-specific in-services/training.

Implements evidence-based findings into daily practice, processes, and policies.

Participates in/attends, but not limited to, mandatory organizational ancillary training programs; continuing educational programs to update and/or maintain the knowledge and skills needed to meet or enhance competency requirements; interdepartmental and unit-level in-services/briefings; continuing quality (i.e., Trusted Care, Team-STEPPS (Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety), Participates in peer review activities.
