About Us:

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office has played a vital role in shaping Ohio’s past and present and the work it does today helps chart the state’s future. The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. In these and other capacities, staff members interact with tens of thousands of Ohioans each year.

What You'll Do:

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is seeking an experienced, licensed attorney with a passion for public service, demonstrated commitment to protecting the unprotected, and an ability to work effectively with diverse groups for an Assistant Attorney General opening in the Health and Human Services Section. This position will primarily represent the Ohio State Medical Board in disciplinary actions against Ohio-licensed physicians and others, as well as other duties as assigned. Typical Medical Board cases may involve allegations of substandard care, improper prescribing, and/or misconduct (including sexual misconduct involving patients).

The successful candidate will possess strong oral, written and verbal communication skills, be able to articulate complex legal matters, and exhibit creativity and innovation in their role as an assistant attorney general. The Health and Human Services Section is a litigation-oriented section. HHS cases primarily involve administrative hearings pursuant to Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 119. The Section represents agencies in the healthcare, licensing, and public benefit areas. The Section also brings lawsuits on behalf of agencies and defends agencies against suits in all state and federal courts. HHS typically has over thirty attorneys, in five regional offices. The Section represents both regulatory boards and state agencies, and is divided into five units, as follows: 1) Regulatory Board Unit 2) Health Unit 3) Unemployment Services Unit 4) Human Services Unit and 5) Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, and Psychology.

The ideal candidate for this position will deal primarily with administrative appeals and possess strong writing skills. This position will be headquartered in our Columbus office and will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs.
