Description:
The primary role of the professional school nurse is to promote the health and well-being of students, thereby facilitating student success and achievement. This person will be expected to adhere to the Standards of School Nurse Practice, Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), and Nevada State Board of Nursing Advisory Opinion.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Renders basic first aid to students and maintains accompanying records
Contacts parent(s)/guardian(s) and medical personnel (ambulance and hospital) in emergencies and maintains accompanying records as directed
Responsible for the confidentiality of medical information
Tracks and reports bloodborne pathogen incidents as directed
Updates and maintains health records and immunization records
Responds to requests for first aid supplies
Prepares and maintains health-related letters, reports, and information on forms as directed
May administer first aid and/or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) as necessary
Interprets student health assessment information for students, parents/guardians, and school staff, as appropriate
Complies with public health authority mandates regarding communicable disease management and reporting
Complies with state and federal law regarding reporting of suspected child abuse
Facilitates the provision of student medication at school, per appropriate licensed health care provider orders
Collaborates professionally with administrators, students, staff, parents/guardians, and community representatives
Perform other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
Requirements:
Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR/AED, and Universal Precautions
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited college or university
Must possess, or be able to acquire by the time of appointment to the position, a license from the Nevada State Board of Nursing
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate from the American Heart Association, or American Red Cross. Certification must be maintained for the duration of the assignment
