Our expectations

This role consists of an active technical role developing engines and methods. The candidate will be heavily engaged in analysis & testing at a high competency level. There will be regular and reliable interaction with integrated product teams. The candidate will utilize LS/Dyna to generate full engine models to predict engine system response to highly dynamic short duration impact events such as turbofan blade off, bird ingestion, hail impact and turboprop/shaft engine system response to stage blade off, shaft shear and overspeed.

What your day to day will look like?

Beyond the Department (Working with the Impact Dynamics Discipline Lead and Engineering Specialists):

Support the certification for impact dynamics requirements on new engine programs.

Development of system-level impact dynamics models to support engine development and certification.

Participate in engine and rig test planning, including instrumentation requirements, test sequence, post-test data reduction, and evaluation for engine certification.

Within the Department

Provide technical input to the engine impact dynamics sub-discipline.

Execute the development of new engine impact dynamics analytical methods to improve predictive capability and analytical efficiency.

Support broader impact dynamics work and analytical method development and alignment at Pratt and Whitney.

The tools you need to be successful

University degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering combined with 5+ years of relevant experience

Expert knowledge in system level impact dynamics analysis in LS Dyna

Expert knowledge in at least one other complementary discipline such as: load, stress, and fatigue life analysis for metallic and composite structures

Knowledge of gas turbine static and rotating structure

Strong practical mechanical aptitude

Unselfish team-player

Ability with programming using python to automate pre- and post-processing of large amounts of data

Ability to work with a Global Team
