Cooking Specialist - Camp

The Cooking Specialist plans and executes cooking and baking activities in 45-minute chunks for campers of varying ages at J Camp. The Cooking Specialist will work with the Camp Administrator to make sure all dietary needs are being met. This job requires some prep time leading up to camp and works closely with the Assistant Camp Director.

Schedule: 7-10 weeks during summer (+1 week of training); Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week.

Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:

Experience working with children preferred.

Experience with cooking preferred. (Personal or professional experience)

Experience with ropes courses, or willingness to become rope course certified.

Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification for adults/children/infants, or willing to take courses before the start of camp (training will be offered through the J).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations.

Knowledge of relevant health and safety practices.

Ability to coach and empower campers, counselors in training, and fellow staff members.

Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with campers, team members, and supervisors.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to work effectively independently and in a team setting.

Ability to exercise good judgment.

Additional Employment Requirements:

Satisfactorily pass a criminal background check.

Must be at least 16 years of age.

Compensation and Benefits Include:

Full Family SJCC Membership which includes gym, basketball court and pool. (Employees who work 20+ hours)

Washington Paid Sick Leave (Part-time, on call, seasonal employees)

Washington State Pay Range: $19.00/hour to $ 22.00/hour

Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including but not limited to, skills, relevant experience, and specific work location.
