Job Description
The role of the Waste Treatment Plant Operator is to operate and maintain a consistent working environment in the waste treatment plant. Responsibilities will include the daily operation and monitoring of our waste treatment plant. All work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Finishing Manager, subject to review through reports and results achieved
The Waste Treatment Plant Operator will also perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring and testing required to maintain compliance with Federal State and Local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process, and sludge management
Essential functions (What)
Work with and around various chemical treatment processes, including but not limited to the following: i.e., chromate conversion coating, vacuum impregnation, anodize, and passivation
Responsible for accuracy of own work
Must be able to wear personal safety gear as required to meet OSHA regulations, ie., goggles, gloves, back belt, apron, and respirator when required
Fill out required regulated paperwork and required documentation
Perform the installation, maintenance and repair of the physical plant and pump stations and all of their components.
Conduct the necessary weekly checks of the treatment plant on a rotating basis.
Work Requirements Be able to perform and document various tests required by State and Federal agencies for the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
Have a thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment and the ability to diagnose and correct equipment malfunction.
Have a basic knowledge of State and Federal rules governing wastewater discharges and worker’s safety.
Perform daily checks of the wastewater treatment process and periodic checks of pump stations.
Have a working knowledge of the operation, methods and procedures of a wastewater treatment plant.
Understanding of basic chemistry and the ability to perform analytical titrations

Preferred Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Min. 2 yrs. experience with chromate and chemicals, anodize, passivate, impregnation
Basic knowledge of hazardous materials handling
Proper chemical safety and handling
Tolerance to a periodically, slightly corrosive environment
Physical tolerance to metal oxides and hydroxides
