Stradley Ronon is seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic and collaborative Director of Marketing Communications to lead its marketing team and provide strategic direction and oversight of firmwide and practice-specific marketing efforts.

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and execution of effective marketing and promotional strategies, in alignment with Stradley’s established priorities and plans, in areas that include creative and content marketing, marketing and digital technology (including client relationship management, website, social media, etc.) and external and internal marketing communications. This position will also oversee the development of special projects as needed.

The Director of Marketing Communications oversees the day-to-day operations of the Marketing Communications Department, including:

Implementation of content strategy for internal and external marketing communications, including materials promoting firm capabilities across practices, industries and offices;

Directories and rankings submissions, web content, media relations, bylined articles, collateral development and production, and digital platforms, including firm social media accounts, microsites and targeted campaigns; and

Supervision of communications, digital marketing and marketing technology professionals on the Marketing Communications Team.

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with firm leadership to devise and implement overall institutional content strategy as well as focused campaigns for particular practices, offices and industries.

Manages firm “editorial calendar,” encompassing activities fueled by marketing, employee relations, DEI, recruiting and other firm business areas.

Establishes, oversees and adjusts as necessary workflows and department traffic to ensure various priorities are appropriately balanced with accommodation for “breaking news.”

Writes and edits copy for web, media outreach, collateral, digital platforms, and produces talking points on occasion for firm leadership and internal events.

Supervises and mentors professionals in the Marketing Communications Department by fostering a cohesive team dynamic, providing technical and professional guidance, and giving direct constructive feedback to develop team members. Guide them in juggling priorities and producing excellent work product.

Oversees content and design for all firm collateral, including firm wide and practice/attorney specific materials such as brochures, capability “one sheets,” biographies, bylined articles, print and advertisements, and client communications.

In conjunction with Marketing Technology Manager, update and promote policies relevant to digital media use, media relations and other communications issues.

Collaborate with Practice Management Team to create materials supportive of client development initiatives, pitches and proposals, and special projects. Attend practice group meetings. Liaise with Department Chairs and Practice Group Leaders for needs assessment and alignment on strategic goals.

Collaborate with Talent, Recruiting and D&I Teams to support firm events, branding and promotional activities associated with attracting and retaining talent and diversity efforts.

Manages relationships with, and performance of, outside service providers, including media relations firms, designers, content aggregators and writers.

Works with the firm’s Communications Manager to ensures firm’s communications standards are applied to internal and external messaging and that marketing materials are consistent in tone, quality and content.

Deliver periodic training both individually and in group settings to attorneys on topics such as media relations, best practices for social media, etc.

Assists with special projects assigned by firm leadership.

Qualifications:

15+ years of overall experience in marketing, with at least 7 to 10 years managing a team in a professional services environment, with law firm experience required.

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a writing-intensive discipline such as journalism, English, communications or history. An advanced communications-focused degree is a plus.

Excellent business writing and editing skills.

Superb project management skills required, including setting priorities, planning, organizing, follow-through, delegating and negotiating.

Previous experience successfully managing, mentoring and developing staff.

Must be able to proactively interface and communicate well across all levels of management and administration, including senior and decision-making partners.

Team-player with a positive attitude, the ability to maintain confidential information, exercise good judgement, follow-through on assigned tasks, juggle several priorities simultaneously, and work effectively under pressure.
