The Fire Alarm Technician will perform electrical installation, maintenance and repair work; receives assignments verbally and by work order; determines methods to accomplish assignments.

Responsibilities

Analyze blue prints, schematics and drawings of fire alarm and/or other related fire alarm systems for the purpose of determining the efficient installation of new and upgraded systems.

Diagnose causes of fire alarm problems or failures in the system for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.

Install fire alarm system components (e.g. panels, audible/visual alarms, pull stations, detectors, etc.) for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded system capabilities.

Respond to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving safety concerns

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Valid NICET II Fire Alarm Technician certification issued by any municipality in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area which includes any county in Maryland and Virginia, or the District of Columbia

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and appliances needed for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm circuits, related fixtures, and hardware.

Ability to follow maintenance instructions, schedules and inspection of work orders and other job assignments.

Ability to perform maintenance services, diagnose systems or equipment malfunctions, and complete repairs when required.

Knowledge of the composition, operation, and installation of a variety of fire alarm systems, circuits, equipment, and controls.

Knowledgeable of national and local electrical codes and fire alarm codes

Ability to plan, lay out and complete the installation, modification

and repair of various fire alarm systems, circuits, equipment, and controls.

Ability to interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings; and must be skilled in the use of a wide variety of test equipment such as voltmeter, ammeter, wattmeter, and ohmmeter.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
