The Lourie Center School seeks to hire an experienced Safety Officer who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.

The Lourie Center for Children's Social & Emotional Wellness is a private, non-profit agency with a mission to improve the social and emotional health of young children and their families through prevention, early intervention, education, research and training.

As a Safety Officer you will:

• Be available to support directly or indirectly staff intervening with any child in crisis.

• During a crisis, if required, take the child of the classroom and/or restrain the child in the control

position and/or escort the child to the time out room.

• Consistently monitor all classrooms, the de-escalation room and time out rooms, anticipating and

identifying situations which may be escalating for the purpose of early intervention.

• Wear mobile phone in order to be contacted and at any moment to be of assistance to other staff

for dealing with a crisis.

• Oversee the processing of Behavior Observation Report(s) on all children.

• In collaboration with the School Clinical Director and other in-house trainers, train all school, TNP

and clinic staff in how to intervene in least intrusive (verbal de-escalation) to most intrusive

(restraint) methods based on the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Program.

• Prepare and submit the following reports: Quality Indicators to the Executive Director of the Lourie

Center and the PI Coordinator on a weekly and a monthly basis; In collaboration with Behavior

Technicians, complete Behavioral Intervention Data Sheets for DCPS and PGCPS and

documentation of Physical Interventions or Seclusion Forms for MCPS.

• Process Behavior Observation Reports.

• Review digital recordings of crisis as needed for training, troubleshooting, and staff development.

• Review AHC Employee Incident Investigation Forms with school staff members and submit

completed forms to the Occupational Health Nurse.

• Assist in classrooms, as necessary, when other staff members are absent

• Collect and analyze behavioral data to construct behavior plans for each individual student based

on CPI Crisis Development Model

• Communicate with transportation staff regarding reports of student behavior on the bus and relay

reports to each classroom and evaluate safety plans for students presenting challenging behavior

on the bus.

• Interact regularly with classroom staff, social workers and leadership team involved in crises.

• Organize and plan for Shelter-in-Place; supervise practice drills and training of staff; take ongoing

inventory of supplies and restocking of materials; maintain emergency preparedness standards

consistent with those of Maryland state and local jurisdiction.

• Maintain responsibilities as Medication Technician, including administering medication,

participating in ongoing training, logging medications, contacting parents regarding medication

needs or issues and overseeing medication inventory.

• Complete monthly EOC rounds and reports findings to Administrative Director and Building Service

Manager.

• In collaboration with the Administrative Director, represents the Lourie Center at division level

Quality and Safety and Environment of Care meetings.

• Collaborate with the Director of Safety and Emergency Management to ensure safety compliance

with various regulatory agencies (TJC, etc.)

• Collaborate with MCPS building services team on ensuring regular and successful fire drills.

• Assist department heads and administrator in enforcing safety regulations and codes.

• Monitor incidents entered into RL Solutions and follow up as necessary, including but not limited to

investigations, root cause analysis and additional training.

• Supervises Behavior Technicians, including completion of annual PDP evaluations.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, child development, or related discipline required.

• Minimum of five years of experience working with young children, preferably those with

emotional/behavioral difficulties required.

• Credentials to train staff in the Crisis Prevention Institute model of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention

required.

• Minimum of two years of experience supporting and supervising team members required.

• Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
