Substance Abuse Counselor

Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Substance Use Specialist to work with our Intensive Mobile Treatment (IMT) Team in Manhattan, providing crucial support services to individuals with complex needs.

Location:

Manhattan (may involve treating clients outside Manhattan if they relocate)

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Responsibilities

Harm Reduction Services:

Plan and lead Co-Occurring Disorder (CoD) support group activities

Attend relevant training programs on Harm Reduction services

Research and serve as a liaison for Harm Reduction programs

Provide consultation on Harm Reduction services to the IMT team

Case Management Services:

Manage a caseload of IMT clients

Conduct client assessments and develop treatment goals

Assist clients with accessing entitlement programs, psychiatric services, and rehabilitation

Make referrals to community health services

Accompany clients to appointments as necessary

Maintain accurate client case records and communicate regularly with families

Visit clients in various locations including residential facilities, hospitals, and on the street

Participation as IMT Team Member:

Attend staff meetings, case conferences, and training programs

Participate in supervision meetings to review client progress

Collaborate with IMT team staff in a team-based case management model

Qualifications

Master's degree in social work or related field with experience in substance use treatment; or Bachelor’s degree and CASAC

Experience working with clients with substance abuse and co-occurring issues

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
