Job Description

General Statement of Duties

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, this position will assist with routine legal matters, including clerical and research support services, document preparation and review, interviewing residents, research investigations, fact-checking, and court or trial preparation.

Key Duties/Essential Job Functions:

Meets with attorney regularly to discuss assigned cases or projects.

Drafts legal documents, routine pleadings and motions, and PCC documents, including leases, contracts, affidavits, and interrogatories.

Files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.

Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to the Chief Legal Officer.

Interview witnesses and prepare summaries of their statements.

Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, including evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, and other items.

Assists with court proceedings and trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.

Creates reports for attorney based upon case specifications and attorney requests.

Work with attorney to develop legal arguments.

Monitor changes to government guidelines or regulations and submit analysis on pertinent changes.

Monitor and collect funds for resident-stipulated agreements.

Transcription of all meeting minutes.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education/Qualifications: Associate degree in legal studies, paralegal, or a related field is required. Bachelor's degree in related fields preferred. A paralegal certificate is required. One to three years of legal support experience is required. Must be fluent in Spanish and English.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Typical office environment and ability to attend meetings, training, and travel to PCC sites and other buildings during work unaccompanied.
